Our lawyers and tax advisors work with clients ranging from successful entrepreneurs, financial services providers to international groups with global revenue of over US$15 billion. We approach business transactions, regulatory compliance obligations and legal problems from a holistic perspective with thorough consideration of legal and regulatory consequences of a particular tax structure and vice versa.
We advise clients on all aspects of taxation including corporate tax, trusts, superannuation, international tax, indirect taxes and state taxes. We also advise on tax consequences of business and property transactions. We are able to guide clients in setting up tax-efficient business structures.
Tax controversy and dispute resolution
In addition to the tax advisory work a large part of our tax practice is advising clients involved in audits and disputes with the revenue authorities. We are briefed predominantly by accounting firms and other law firms as well as directly by clients to assist with negotiating and resolving disputes involving the Australian Taxation Office and the State Revenue Authorities.
We can be engaged at the Audit Stage to try to resolve the dispute early or file objections to amended assessments or engaged later on at the Litigation Stage. Our primary focus is to resolve the dispute as quickly and efficiently as possible without the need to litigate.
The founder of Gupta & Co, Saurabh Gupta, is an ex ATO litigator who has been involved with hundreds of tax disputes. He clearly understands that a drawn out litigation is the least efficient way to resolve a dispute both for the client and the revenue authorities.
